Benefits of a Himalayan Sound Bath

Tibetan Sound Bath Benefits

Have you ever had the unique pleasure of a sound bath experience? It might sound like something totally new-age, but it's actually an ancient practice innovated at least a thousand years ago in the Himalayas where Tibetan buddhists began using bronze bowls as meditational aids - and for thousands of years prior gongs were used for their same vibrational benefits. Nowadays, "singing bowls" are now made of various metals but the effect is the same: when struck, they emit an incredibly soothing vibration that can be felt throughout the entire body.

Our bodies, and all of existence, are vibrating at specific frequencies. All matter is made up of atoms, which are in a constant state of motion. By using a singing bowl, you are tapping into the subtle energy of the body. A sound bath is like a tune-up for your body's vibrational fields and a massage for the nervous system.

The vibration is incredibly calming - so much so that you might just fall asleep! Try not to - instead, relax into meditation, a state of no-mind. Sound baths usually last for an hour, the best part is when the healer will strike the bowl nearby your head so that you can really feel the vibration; it will make the hairs on your body stand.

You usually will leave the experience feeling calm and euphoric.

If you live in a metropolitan area, chances are you will find a yoga studio that will occasionally host sound baths. Otherwise, you can find some wonderful videos on YouTube, plug in a good set of noise-cancelling headphones and lay down on a comfortable mat in savasana position (resting) and let the relaxing vibrations wash over your body.
