proudly handmade
Every hat in this collection is knitted by hand in the Kathmandu Valley — by one woman, using techniques passed down through generations. From yak wool beanies built for deep-winter cold, to hand-crocheted merino bucket hats for cooler seasons, each piece is made from natural fibres and finished with the kind of care a machine can't replicate. When your order ships, you'll find a card inside, signed by the person who made it.
Why Hand-Knit Makes a Difference
A machine-made hat and a hand-knit hat look similar from across a room. Up close — and on your head — they don't feel the same.
Machine knitting is optimised for consistency: every stitch the same tension, every hat identical. Hand knitting works differently. The tension shifts slightly as the knitter moves through the round. The result is a fabric with more give, more loft between the fibres, and a fit that adapts to the wearer rather than forcing the wearer to adapt to it. This isn't a romantic notion — it's the reason hand-knit hats last longer and feel better with wear.
Our hats are made by women artisans in the Kathmandu Valley who have been knitting since childhood. They work from home, on their own schedule, with their own hands. Each hat takes time — and that time is visible in the finished piece.
